Conservatoire National de Musique François Mitterrand
The Conservatoire National de Musique François Mitterrand was established by the Government of Mauritius in 1987. In 1992, it became a Trust Fund through an Act of Parliament and is now managed by a board of trustees under the aegis of the Minister of Arts and Culture.
In 2006, the Conservatoire began decentralising its activities by opening branches in Grand Baie, Mahebourg, Port-Louis, Surinam, Flacq, and Rodrigues.
This expansion aimed to make musical education more accessible to a broader population across the island. Each year, around 1,500 students enrol in the Conservatoire, where over 40 teachers guide them on their musical journeys.
Additionally, in 2006, the Conservatoire became a recognized Cambridge Centre, preparing students for music as a subject at GCE ‘O’ and ‘A’ levels.
